When you hire us for residential contractor services, we prioritize you to make sure you get what you need as fast as possible. If you're interested in our residential contractor services, give us a call at 386-649-9231 today to set up an appointment to discuss your options.

  • Do you offer repairs?

We only offer repairs to jobs we have done. You should always call the contractor that installed your roof or consider its age and current condition. Permits are public records, so you may search your parcel number for improvement history or if none were obtained.

  • Why are existing roofing materials always removed from mobile homes?

Guidance was originally obtained from the FLHSMV in 2002, which regulates the mobile and manufactured home industry. Their position has not changed in over 20 years, making the weight risk too high for materials to be installed over materials.

    THINK:

While other companies don't bring this to your attention because it's easier to install over materials, we think injury and potential wall buckling and/or roof collapse are worth thinking about.

  • What about permits?

Every mobile or manufactured homeowner needs to make sure their homeowner's insurance policy will cover a claim in the event a loss occurs and materials are installed over materials. It's important to know for your financial security and for future owners as well.

Roofing permits, throughout the State of Florida, have been required since March 1, 2002, for roofing projects and are public records, so lending institutions, insurance carriers, claims adjusters, and any other interested parties can view parcel improvements and verify compliance.

If you are unable to locate the permit(s) for your parcel, you may wish to contact your local building department for a printout so you have the same information others obtain.

  • Do you need blueprints?

For new construction we work only from sealed blueprints to avoid errors and delays, but if you're in the planning phase, we recommend you search online for single-family home plans, find several to your liking, and print the floor plan. You can then cut and paste room by room and create a rough floor plan that PE's or AIA's can design from and to your specifications. Do not purchase any online plans until you are certain the content meets the Florida building code, as most are site-specific to areas other than Florida. If you find an exact plan you like, we suggest calling PIA's near you to see if they will re-draw since you will need to meet with him/her for specifics such as the exterior you wish for as well as the type of roofing, etc.

Material costs as well as availability have become obstacles for custom builders due to the high demand for quality products nationwide, but a rough idea for us to build a contractor's choice (above average) grade framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, insulation, sheetrock, siding/trim, doors and windows, countertops, cabinets, refrigerators, and stoves begins at $150.00 per foot (heated and cooled areas) and can be more specific based on sealed blueprints.

Land clearing, septic systems, and/or wells are not included in our price due to environmental regulations, but we will gladly share with you companies we personally know and have worked with for over 20 years. Tile work, flooring, and painting are also standard since there are so many variations to select from, giving you plenty of time to make your selections during the planning stage.

  • Why Don't You Install Aluminum?

We hope this image will make it clear why we refuse to install aluminum. Florida is one of the worst states for this material, and it should never be used.

  • Why don't you install asphalt, fiberglass, or composite products?

It's no secret that most Floridians consider their home(s) to be their most valuable asset. That's why it is becoming more and more important to protect your investment with materials that not only meet your economic requirements but are durable, energy efficient, and last longer than other roofing materials.

Members of the American Society of Home Inspectors list 10 reasons roofs fail: blistering, open laps, splitting, punctures, penetrations, wrinkles, improper flashing, weathered surfaces, fasteners, and improper maintenance.

Out of these 10, only improper flashing, fasteners, and improper maintenance pertain to metal roofing products. The remainder address asphalt, fiberglass, or wood products.

When the amount of asphalt was significantly reduced in the making of composite shingles from "oil shortages" over 20 years ago,

Hamby Construction & Roofing saw the potential for them to need replacing in a short period of time, which was good for manufacturers but not in the best interest of the majority of consumers.

The easiest way to explain how tab shingles hold up in the Florida sun and other natural elements is to put them in the microwave and see what happens. It's that simple. The interior of this home experienced water damage leading to mold growth, and with new owners, it is now a showplace vs. a health hazard.

  • What proof of compliance will you provide?

Hamby Construction & Roofing provides each client with a complete permit package, which includes: a paid invoice, an estimate copy, a permit copy with an inspection record, a recorded notice of commencement, a construction lien law affidavit copy, a notarized release of lien, Florida Recovery Fund information, a manufacturer's warranty, maintenance and cleaning instructions, and a workmanship warranty.

It is imperative to keep pine straw, leaves, (acidic components) limbs and sticks, pollen, and other hazards from building up, especially in valleys, which will cause leaks and also damage panels and screws. There is no warranty coverage for improper maintenance as it can be prevented, and if you're unsure of cleaning your roof yourself, we recommend Sunshine Cleaning and Pressure Washing, which uses low-pressure and cleaning products that won't harm metal.

For everyone's protection: All our vehicles and location signs are professionally lettered so neighbors feel safe knowing who's in their area & so inspectors can easily locate properties for inspections. This helps reduce unlicensed activity that has proven to be problematic for new & existing homeowner insurance policies.
